Get to know Nilam (she/her)

"Motherhood can be beautiful and burdensome; sometimes, at the same time, and often at the end of each extreme. It can be challenging to juggle our own hopes and expectations, while also navigating uncertainty, isolation, judgment, and old wounds. As a mother myself, I have a keen understanding of how these stresses can overwhelm us to our core, especially now more than ever as we are dealing with the challenges of the pandemic. I am honoured to be able to provide support to mothers during this difficult time. 

My goal in therapy is to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space for you to share your experiences. I work with a holistic approach to understand your concerns and to find solutions that are unique to you. I believe that change happens when we can share our innermost struggles and begin to accept ourselves. I will hold space for you and provide evidence-based tools to support your growth. 

I work with a variety of modalities, including but not limited to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Gestalt Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Waterloo and I am currently completing my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University."

Get to know Quinten (they/them)

"I think of counselling first and foremost as a compassionate relationship that helps us endure suffering and supports us to grow. I work from a relational-cultural lens that’s explicitly embedded in social justice values. For me, that looks like a nonjudgmental space where you get to show up as you are and work towards what works for you, while I listen and support. We might explore what your authenticity looks like, what’s going on internally, your hopes for the future, or events in the past, but always with an eye on how the outside world and your relationships are contributing to your unique set of strengths and challenges. I’m drawn to relational-cultural therapy as a foundation while bringing in an eclectic set of skills and knowledge informed by self-compassion, neurobiology, mindfulness, theories on disconnection and repair, and frameworks that work with narratives and ‘parts’. 

As a disabled, queer and trans person who has experienced many beginnings, endings, and life transitions, I understand what it can mean to feel out of place or unmoored, but I also know the joy that can come from forming enriching relationships that let you grow into yourself. I came to my desire to be a helper by being helped, and my previous experience lies in peer support and community education. That work has focused on consent, communication, and navigating relationships outside of the norm(s) and I have carried these interests through my current master’s studies as a counselling psychology student at Yorkville University. 

Sometimes the scripts we’re given don’t work for us, so we get to write our own. I sincerely welcome people of all a/sexualities, a/genders, relationship styles, and family compositions to reach out for a meeting."
